HALIFAX PLAYERS GAIN REPRESENTATIVE HONOURS

The last 3 months have been a busy time for a number of Halifax water polo players who have gained representative honours.

 

Luke Franks, Josh Berry, Robert Shaw and Nick Truelove were part of the U17 North Eastern Area team that finished runners up in the inter-area championships held in Liverpool at the end of January.

 

Franks has also recently been on two tours of Eastern Europe with the Great Britain Youth squad and is on course to be part of the squad that will compete in this summers Youth European Championships.

 

Truelove, along with goalkeeper Young Gawthorpe, have been selected to be part of the younger age group GB development squad which will see them train on a monthly basis over the next 18 months to try and follow in Franks’ footsteps.

 

Not to be outdone the Sutcliffe sisters, Anna and Emily, also competed for the girls North Eastern Area team that finished third in their inter-area competition held in Walsall last weekend.

 

Anna is also part of the of the Leeds ladies team that gained promotion to the top division of the ladies national league at the end of January which will see her competing next season against players aiming to take part in the 2012 Olympics.

 

Younger sister Emily, along with Evie Andrews, have also been selected to be part of the girls GB development squad which will see them following a similar programme to Truelove and Gawthorpe over the next 18 months.

 

The rewards for all the players have been well deserved and reflect the level of commitment and training they have put in, both in terms of swimming and water polo over the last 12 months.

 

Recognition for these achievements should also go to the coaches Mark Sutcliffe and Mark Brundle who helped reform the team 4 years ago. Many thanks go to both of you for your hardwork and dedication in running the Waterpolo side of the club.
