Leeds B grade gala on the 21st December was a great success for Halifax swimmers where there were some marvellous swims. Overall, Halifax swimmers achieved 31 personal best times, 2 gold medals, 3
bronze medals, and many congratulations to Charlie Kershaw on achieving his Yorkshire time on 50m
breaststroke in his first gala.
With 17 swimmers attending this gala, all under 13 yrs, it was a great achievement.

Presentation Evening
Wow! What can I say? So many people came to make it such a memorable evening for the club.
Philip Morrison, President of the Yorkshire Swimming Association was really pleased to come to present the trophies. I enjoyed the evening and hope you did too.
I said lots of Thank You’s on Saturday but just in case anyone thinks I missed the coaches out of the long list, let me say a separate word about them now.
Thank you to Gareth for his leadership on poolside. Thank you to Julie as Assistant coach.
Thank you to all the other volunteer teachers, coaches and helpers on Poolside. Without their help we
would not have a swimming club. Not only do they give their time for poolside duties but they also give up time to keep their training up to date. We have a very well qualified team. Thank you.

Congratulations
We welcome Kim Mathias to the coaching team. She has recently qualified as a level 1 coach with some
excellent comments from the course tutor.
Jane Woodcock has also added level 1 coaching to her list of qualifications. Congratulations to both of
you.

Gala 1

Entries for gala 1 are now closed. The gala is on Thursday 23rd February. Make sure the swimmers have registered at the front desk BEFORE 7.00p.m to give Gareth Deacon time to prepare the start sheets for poolside officials. Swimmers arriving after 7.00p.m. will not be included in the programme.

Pennants will be given to heat winners.

ASA registration and membership fees
Anyone who is likely to swim in graded meets, water polo players who play in a team (talk to Mark about this), synchro and diving competitors must have ASA Category 2 membership which costs £24.20 this year. The last day for paying this to Christine is this coming Thursday, February 2nd. She is going on holiday on Saturday so please make sure you catch her this week.
January 31st is the last day for paying club membership. Christine will lapse your membership if this is not paid on Thursday and your child will not be able to swim.

Team Captains
As well as having Josh Berry and Sophie Low as club captains we will be using delegated swimmers to act as team captains when going away to galas. Gareth will choose who this will be for each gala and you will get to wear one of the new T shirts. What personal qualities do you think Gareth will be looking for? Let me know and we’ll make a job description so that captains of the future will know what is
expected of them. Do it quickly as there lots of galas coming up.

Swim 21
Swim 21 is the quality mark for swimming Clubs and we are due for re-accreditation in May this year.
Our submission has just been completed, taking approximately 150 hours over the last two months to
complete. Thank you to all the people who have contributed in any way. It’s a sure way of finding out
how well the club is organised.
