TRAINING FOR POOLSIDE OBSERVERS

To keep the training costs to our swimmers as low as possible the club provides its own lifesaving cover on Thursday/Friday club nights.

The conditions for club pool hire state that coaches should hold current lifesaving qualifications and suitably trained poolside observers must occupy the chairs during all swimming activities. To train as a 2012 poolside observer please join one of the following Health and Safety briefings, which will meet by the learner pool and last about 30 minutes.

Thursday March 8th. 7.15pm and 8pm.

Friday March 9th 8pm

Thursday March 15th 8pm

Tuesday March 20th 8pm.

Please support both your swimmer and Halifax Swimming Club by attending one of these essential H&S briefings and volunteering to sit in an observer chair. Thank you for your time!

Don’t miss these deadlines

The deadline for the Harrogate Spa Town A/B Graded Meet is coming up. Give your entry form & payment to Jackie by Thursday, 8th March. The Sports Aid meet deadline is a week later, 15th March.

The Jorvik Sprints in June, and the Rotherham A &B Grade meet in July, are both now online. Deadline to enter: 26th April. Meet details & entry forms are here:

For details on the meets:

1. Visit the club website

2. Click on External galas on the left-hand side

Your swimmer must have category 2 status to participate in these and any other graded meet. See Jackie right away, who’ll help sort you with that. Any questions, feel free to email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Photography

We have an underwater camera which is under-used at the moment, because Gareth just does not have the time.

Are there any budding photography enthusiasts out there who would like to learn how to use it? The camera shots can be made into DVD’s, a useful training aid, which can be sold to raise funds for the club. If you are interested please ask Gareth for more details.

Gala 2

Entries for Gala 2 will be collected from Thursday March 1st to Thursday 22nd March. There will be no late entries. The gala will be held on 21st April. Is there a volunteer who can help Jo collect entries when Sue is not available?

Congratulations to the following swimmers who have reached the required times and will now move to the next group for gala 2.
