Congratulations
Megan Shackleton competed in the National Junior/Youth Disability Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge on March 24th and 25th. She swam in the 50 and 100 freestyle, 50 and 100 breaststroke, 50 and 100 backstroke and a team relay. She did PBs in all her individual events knocking collectively a total of 45 seconds off her previous PBs. winning 1 gold, 3 silvers and 2 bronze medals.
She not only represented Halifax but the recently amalgamated Yorkshire and North East Regions, now known just as North East Region. All the teams earned points for their region depending on their results. Megan's contribution enhanced the NE team who went on the win the overall championship beating strong opposition from the Scottish, North and South West, Wales and Northern Ireland teams. Well done, Megan.
Poolside observers
Each year a parent from every family signs a consent form which includes the agreement to sit in an observer chair, so it’s disappointing when so few volunteer to fulfill this essential role.
Thank you to all who took part in the poolside training sessions. When Gareth or any of the coaches ask for somebody to sit in a chair, I hope you will all come forward to support both your swimmer and Halifax Swimming Club.
Upcoming galas
The Jorvik Sprints in June, and the Rotherham A &B Grade meet in July, are both now online. Deadline to enter is 26th April.
The last Kirklees and District gala is a teams event and takes place on 17th June at Spenborough pool in Cleckheaton. Jackie Warner will be issuing more details next week. There is always a fantastic atmosphere at this gala and the club pays for all team entries. Let’s hope we can enter lots of teams.
