Spring Bank Holiday

As the pool closes at 4.00p.m. on Monday 4th June there will be no training sessions

Calderdale have decided to close all pool facilities at 2.30p.m. on Tuesday 5th June so THERE WILL BE NO TRAINING SESSIONS  ON THAT DAY. SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE.

Yorkshire Masters Competition

Julie Beaumont, assistant coach, took part in the Yorkshire Masters competition held at Scarborough in May. She came 2nd in the 50/54 yrs age group in a time of 44.17. She was pipped by a swimmer who was 0.17secs faster.

She also came 2nd in the 100m Breaststroke in a time of 1.37.31.  Elaine and I were officiating and saw some fantastic swimming. The results other Halifax Masters Swimmers can be found on the website. Well done Julie

Standback observers

Yet again we seem to be having difficulties with volunteers not occupying the chairs during training sessions.  Last night was particularly bad, with even the teaching pool being left in difficulties. The club has a duty to ensure that the observation chairs are occupied; the swimmers cannot enter the water unless someone is sitting in all three chairs. All new families to the club sign an agreement, part of which is to take a turn in the chair. The few who have been doing it week after week are getting fed up of always having to volunteer. Debbie Mann said yesterday, “I am not a babysitting service, week after week sitting in the chair. Why don’t other people come forward?”  It seems that some people are not prepared to share this job unless a rota is made.  Where are all the people who attended a training session earlier this year? As those who have been with the club for a while, you may remember the number of times a rota has been made, but has not worked because people have not turned up when it was their turn. If anyone is prepared to take this job on please come forward. In the meantime, thank you to those who do help out, and if no-one is prepared to sit in a chair the children will have to leave the water.

Bags

I currently have two orders for bags. If anyone else wants to order a bag please let me know as soon as possible.

The cost is £16. The order will be placed on June 8th

Gala dates

Sorry but it seems I made some mistakes with club gala dates. The correct dates for club galas for the rest of the year are as follows:             Gala 3  14th June

Gala 4  23rd August

Gala 5  18th October

Gala 6  20th December

Calderdale Clubs gala

A teams gala has been organised involving swimming clubs in Calderdale. This will take place on Saturday 23rd June at Halifax pool with a 6.15p.m. warm up for a 6.45p.m start. The children will be selected from the teaching groups within the club - groups 1,1A and 2. Breda and Sylvia will make the selection and will inform you if your child has been invited to take part. We hope this gala will be successful and become an annual event. We need 10 raffle prizes please; a bottle inside a bottle bag. The bottle can contain anything – wine, vinegar, shampoo, etc.

Parents, swimmers and coaches meeting

There will be a meeting at North Bridge Leisure Centre on Wednesday 27th June at 6.30p.m when Gareth will talk about external galas. Anyone who needs to know more about which galas to enter, how to make an entry or offer to help on poolside is very welcome to attend. Gareth will also answer other questions. Light refreshments will be available. Please let me know if you can attend.
