Aliya makes final at British Para Swimming International Meet

Aliya Bacakoglu, 11, ventured to Glasgow at the end of April to swim the British Para Swimming International Meet alongside superstars Ellie Simmonds and Hannah Russell. With a classification of S10, SB9, and SM10, Aliya swam the open events in 100 back, 100 fly, 100 breast, 50 free and 200 IM, picking up three PBs and advancing to the final in the 100 fly. Overall, Aliya came 14th out of 29 swimmers, racking up 309 disability points.

Aliya’s future looks set for great things, with times that would qualify her right now for 6 events at the Para Swimming ASA National Championships – if she was 13, the minimum age allowed to compete. This is a tremendous achievement, for which the club is proud of her.
