Aliya Bacakoglu, 12, ventured to Harrogate at the end of September to compete in the North East Para-swimming Championships in the S10 classification. Events were open age, so Aliya’s chances of medalling were tough. If we’ve learned anything about Aliya after her performance at the International Para-swimming Meet in Glasgow earlier this year, it’s not to underestimate her. Aliya came away from Harrogate with four medals, winning three silvers in the 100m Fly, 100m Breast, and 200m IM, plus one bronze in the 100m Back.
