Yorkshires Weekend 2: three medals for Halifax

The second weekend to this year’s Yorkshire Championships proved a brilliant success as even more swimmers made finals and achieved personal best times. Luke Smith had a brilliant weekend, making both the 50 Back and the 50 Fly finals and medalling in both with an impressive third place. Lewis Wainwright took the highest achievement of the weekend, winning Silver in the 50 Fly. Well done boys!

Other notable performances included:

  • Matthew Greidanus: 50 Breast – 4th place
  • Jessica Hartley: 50 Breast – 6th place
  • Lois Shackleton: 50 Fly – 10th place
  • Cormac Roza: 50 Breast – 10th place
  • Andrew Raine: 50 Fly – 4th place
  • Lewis Wainwright: 50 Free -- 5th place

Sunday was a tiring day for many, having swum in the individual races the day before. Swimmers returned for a go at the team events. Although no teams made the finals, they left a great impression, with some narrowly missing out in the final, coming in 11th or 12th place.

In the boys 13/14 years 200 Medley, the 15/16 years 200 Free and the 11/12 years 200 Medley teams came 11th, leaving them as the first reserve for the final. However, the girls were not far behind as their 15/16 years team came 12th in the 200 Free as did the boys Open 200 Medley team.

Overall, everyone displayed their talents with great swims both individually and together, showcasing our pronounced teamwork skills, one of the key aspects of any sport. Well done to all who swum and we look forward to some more exciting results in the weekends to come.
